A Canadian-based online health startup, Ask The Doctor, recently announced a $1.5 million Shiba Inu (SHIB) acquisition.

Ask The Doctor began taking Bitcoin payments in 2016, making it the first healthcare company in the world to do so.

With Shiba Inu added in less than 72 hours, the company now aims to use Coinbase Commerce to take payments using the cryptocurrency, similar to its approach with Doge.

The healthcare business purchased around 31 billion SHIB on the Kraken exchange, according to the report, as it prepared to begin accepting the token as a payment option from its partners in less than three days.

In three days, the company will begin taking meme tokens from its healthcare partners. Previously, Dogecoin could be used to pay for various services in the United States and Canada (DOGE).

The news comes less than three hours after the business revealed that it had been inundated with requests from crypto users, particularly the “SHIBARMY,” to begin taking the coin.

“We will be adding $shib as well within 72 hours due to the high number of requests from the #SHIBARMY for utility with our healthcare partners,” tweeted earlier.

The startup, situated in Toronto, was founded in 2010 and allows clients to communicate with medical specialists via text messaging or video streaming. Former NBA player Israel Idonije and former NBA ace Dikembe Mutombo are among their co-founders.

The healthcare company has most of its users in Canada and has been promoting cryptocurrencies in recent months, even introducing some as a payment option for services delivered.

It began accepting Dogecoin for healthcare services with its partners last month, with its founder Prakash Chand stating his belief in the coin’s utility and scalability.

“Until we added Bitcoin, our services had to be purchased using a Credit Card or Paypal. To some, having a banking paper trail documenting a transaction with “Ask The Doctor” did not provide them with a sufficient level of privacy.” he said.

Prakash, who refers to fiat as “imagined reality,” has praised cryptocurrencies for the ease with which people may use them. Whereas credit cards are not widely accepted, crypto allows for monetary democratization, which means that transactions can be made anywhere regardless of physical constraints.
