Days after announcing a collaboration with Coinbase and the purchase of a virtual block of land in The Sandbox, Adidas has provided additional information about its upcoming ambitions to enter the Metaverse. The legendary clothing brand has teamed up with the Bored Ape Yacht Club, Punks Comic, and NFT collector gmoney, as well as adopting its own Bored Ape.

Adidas-themed clothing layered on top, and a trailer promoting the partnership was also shared.

Adidas has suggested a metaverse in which people in “overlooked locations with updated values” can share their “most original ideas” and otherwise express themselves.

The company is keeping quiet about what this will entail, although NFTs could play a key role.

The developers of the Adidas mobile app had this to say about the initiative:

“This autumn, Adidas, known for celebrating ideas at the bleeding edge of originality, it settling in at the frontier of creativity: The Metaverse. Our goal there? To see every one of its inhabitants thrive. The Metaverse is where anyone can express their most original ideas and be their most authentic selves, in whatever form they might take. And thanks to the blockchain [and NFTs], those pioneers can own a piece of what they create.”

This isn’t a surprising move. It allows Adidas to capitalize on two tech trends at the same time, as well as capitalize on the resulting attention. It could, however, assist the company in expanding its fashion and art goals into the internet sphere. Other brands may follow Adidas and Nike’s lead, at least if the Adidas and Nike metaverses are successful.

More than 10,000 NFTs have been generated on the Ethereum (ETH) blockchain by the Bored Ape Yacht Club. Meanwhile, gmoney is a well-known cryptocurrency and NFT influencer who has appeared on the Fortune NFTy 50 list.

Several participants were asked to express their ideas on what the Metaverse meant in one word during the call. They also mentioned the catchphrase “Into The Metaverse,” which Adidas has turned into a Twitter hashtag, and encouraged listeners to interact with their social media posts by sending reply emojis throughout the conversation.

Adidas replied with a link to a dedicated Metaverse-themed landing page on its website, saying it was time to “enter a world of limitless possibilities.”
